Our lake

We have a lake here on our property and I never get tired of looking into its other worldlyness.

on Fall mornings when the water temp is still warm and the air is cool some amazing things happen

well……maybe not amazing, but to me it’s pretty fascinating

this shot I took before sunrise as a pair of Mallards were making a hasty retreat

this was that same morning just as the sun was sending its rays through the fog on the lake

we live far too North in Georgia to have any real monsters in our waters, but when I was growing up about every 3 or 4 years a story would make it into the paper about someone having an alligator in their lake……….

it would take me weeks to get the thought out of my mind and I had my fair share of nightmares about what was going on under the water where I couldn’t see

we’re in somewhat of a drought now so the water is very clear and the voyeur comes out in me

I wonder if they know I can see them

the little fish find refuge under our dock

that’s why this guy is under there…..yum, little fish

just kidding…..he is a totally harmless grass carp

it’s huge! about 4 feet long

my husband was fishing one time and accidentally caught one (that’s his story and he’s sticking to it) and it took him hours to get it in

it kind of looks like a whale shark, doesn’t it

I’m still not convinced there’s not something sinister lurking deep in the waters of that lake

maybe that’s why I’m drawn to it so much……..I know, I’m a little weird

mostly I go there because it’s just so beautiful

Happy Halloween!!!!

  1. Hmm. That grass carp looks a lot like a Great White to me..

Lauren it’s so funny you would say that. My husband “B” said the same thing not long ago. I came back to the house after riding and I told B that I almost came off because Cisco spooked crossing the dam. The carp sits there not moving and when you get too close it just explodes to get away into deep water. B said Cisco thinks it’s a great white. Cisco and I know it’s coming, but we can’t help but jump. If you can’t tell I hated Jack in the Boxes when I was a kid, in fact I still do.

Very jealous! I love things like that too. There is a lake on my way to work and I love the mornings when I pass by and the fog is really thick. It makes my drive a bit better. It looks so mystic. I would be down there all the time!

Heather our lake has always held a lot of interest for me. We moved to the property where my family now lives when I was one so my mother spent a fair share of her time trying to keep me away from the lake.
